Eliot Bank School Choir is open to Year 4, 5 and 6 students. We meet every Tuesday after school for a rehearsal during which we warm up, learn about music and sing some fantastic songs. We have been learning to sing in harmony and we are really getting to grips with it.

Every term we perform for the school and the wider community at events such as Lewisham Live in Catford Broadway Theatre, The Turning of the Year at Blackheath Halls and we even made a lot of residents at Castlebar Care Home very happy when we performed Christmas songs for them. Keep an eye out for our next performance date.

The choir's singing has contributed to the school's Sing Up Award which recognises the wide range of opportunities for singing at Eliot Bank, in class, as a whole school and beyond the school in concerts.

Choir at Blackheath Concert Halls

On the 14th March 2018 the choir performed at Blackheath Halls. The concert was a celebration of the composer Leonard Bernstein's music as it is the 100th anniversary of his birth this year. The choir performed two Art Songs accompanied brilliantly by Peter Hayworth on the piano in the first half: one with no words, and the other, a recipe for making a great rabbit stew! In the second half they collaborated with a Jazz band, a Wind band, a Rock band, a Samba band, a Secondary School choir and Steal pan players to great a wonderful re-imagination of the music from West Side Story. This piece was composed and conducted by James Redwood. The children had a wonderful time working with the other musicians during the rehearsal process and the final product in the concert was incredibly exhilarating for all involved. Well done, choir!

Choir at Catford Broadway

The choir performed brilliantly at Catford Broadway Theatre on 7th & 8th of March 2018.  The children performed ‘Tomorrow’ from Annie and received rapturous applause. At the end of the concert, over 300 performers from many different schools, performed the songs I Got Rhythm and Be the Change together and even used some sign language. A great time was had by all!

Turning of the Year Concert - Blackheath Concert Halls

On Tuesday 5th December 2017, year 5 and 6 choir members performed at the Turning of the Year concert in Blackheath Halls. Lots of festive songs were sung by nearly 300 children from primary schools across the borough, accompanied by the Lewisham Music Service live band and conducted by Lewisham's Singing Leader, Clare Caddick.

It was a fantastic experience for all involved. Eliot Bank sang beautifully and all the staff who attended were very proud. We hope to receive photos from Lewisham Music Service and plan to share these with you soon.

Turning on the Lights at Downing Street

On Thursday the 8th of December 2016, a small group from our choir were lucky enough to be chosen to sing outside 10 Downing Street. As the lights on the Christmas tree were turned on, the children of Eliot Bank impressed everyone with their carol singing. The children were given a tour of the state rooms and even sat in the Prime Minister’s chair. They sang and behaved so well that they were invited back to Downing Street for the annual children’s Christmas party, the following Monday.
